Growing of the Eden
From the point of view of the business and economic development, the correlation with a garden is a very good one. Basically, there are three key components, which are required to grow the garden. These are (1) the environment and soil, (2) the saplings and (3) the gardener.
The stable and favorable environment and the fertile soil are required to facilitate the growth of the saplings and allow for good and juicy fruits. In the agriculture, the environment and soil are furnished by the Nature and can be adapted by humans, to the certain extent. With regard to the environment and soil in the scope of the country, they are furnished by the government. Exactly the government is the one, who’s responsible for creation of the appropriate environment in the country. If the environment is improper and the soil is instable, even the golden gardener won’t be able to grow the healthy saplings and make them bring good fruits.
The saplings are ideas generated by entrepreneurs. Everything starts from the idea. But the sole idea isn’t enough. The saplings must be cultivated by the devoted gardener. The idea must be elaborated and realized by the devoted gardener and its team of assistants. In the general terms, whatever perfect idea you have, it will remain such on the paper. We all have great ideas. Some of us have the desire to realize them. Few of us are ready to and do act to realize them.
With this regard, I refer to the authors of ideas who think that if they have generated some idea they have the highest vote on it. The idea worth nothing until it is realized and starts bringing fruits in the form of the economic and social value added. That is why it is nonsense to license ideas. It is same as licensing of wordings. Licensing of realizable technologies and products based on some idea is the right approach.
The development of an idea is a stepped process, which can be broken down to a lot of sub-stages and milestones. Think of it in this way. If you brought a new sapling, it does not mean that you have the exclusive right to gather all of its fruits. You must be ready to share the fruits with those who will be responsible for growing the sapling, who will bring in their expertise, skills and devotion – a gardener and its team. Of course, if a gardener and its team does nothing but sitting on own hands, then the value added by the gardener must be questioned.
The gardener and its team are a value-added investor and its management team. The value-added investor brings in not only money but the expertise, the skills and the devotion. The value-added investor must lead and mentor. And its team, the management team, must be responsible for the business administration routines and for organization of the effective and efficient work processes. They must add the intangible value to the sapling. Ultimately, that value will materialize in the form of earnings and dividends.
Exactly the collaborative work of the government, the value-added investors and the entrepreneurs is required in order to grow the Eden. We must understand this. If at least one component is missing, we will never be able to grow the Eden. All efforts of a gardener who tries to grow good saplings on the sand, in the marsh or by the volcano which erupts regularly are in vain. All efforts of the government to create the most stable environment and most fertile soil are in vain, if there are no devoted, honest and experienced gardeners who will add value to the economy and society by realizing entrepreneurs’ ideas.
Unfortunately, some countries lack all or some of the components and it slows down the economic and social development. We must learn to value the garden by valuing all of the components: the environment and soil, the gardeners and the saplings.
